On 7 November, we invited Professor Teruo Kishi, President of Innovative Structural Materials Association (ISMA), and held a special lecture on science and technology diplomacy and the future role of Japanese science and technology. Concurrently, Dr. Kishi serves as NIMS Advisor Emeritus of the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Professor Emeritus, the University of Tokyo, and also as Science and Technology Advisor to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs from September 2015. In this lecture, he talked about the role that the world expects of Japan from the viewpoint of science and technology diplomacy and introduced the research promotion system of several countries in the world. More than 80 participants listened to the lecture, including Dr. Hattori, the President of Shimane University, students and staff, and people from the local companies and organizations. It was an excellent opportunity to consider the issues that the Japanese science and technology are facing from an international perspective and the role of universities for future development.
On the next day, Professor Kishi and Mr. Tomoaki Hyodo, Project Manager, visited Hitachi Metals. Ltd., Wakou Museum, and Kiguchi Technics Inc. in Yasugi City.
The Next Generation Tatara Co-creation Centre sincerely will continue to contribute to the development of science and technology as a research hub for advanced metal materials from Shimane to the world.
