On the 4th of October, 39 students who are in their 2and year of science and mathematics division at Izumo Highschool visited the Next Generation Tatara Co-Creation Centre(NEXTA).

This program which is named “The first SS mini Power up Seminar” is one of the distinctive educational activities of the science and mathematics division at Izumo High school. It is intended to learn local industry through experiencing lectures at local universities or institutions, and arouse interest toward the Natural science or Engineering field of the students. It is also aimed to strengthen their scientific way of thinking and skills at the same time.

First of all, they received instructions about the NEXTA’s general overview, then they had a facility tour. After that, the students were divided into 7 groups by the themes such as “Deforming and breaking materials”, “Let’s experience sintering”, “Let’s understand the system of jet-engine”, “Let’s colour titanium”, “Let’s break the materials”, “Let’s process amorphous metal”, and “Let’s make a magnet” and had experiential learning by groups.

The students seemed to participate in it actively and enjoy the lecture while they also seemed bewildered at touching metal materials or equipment that they had never seen before. In a group of jet-engine, the students went outside, wore earplugs and were able to see how the engine starts. They looked surprised how the small engine makes such a loud sound.

In the end, a student who participated in “Let’s process amorphous metal” said, "I would like to appreciate this valuable opportunity. I got to know about the amorphous metal for the first time today, and I felt lots of possibilities in metal materials".

We will continue to have facility tours or experiential learning like this. Please feel free to contact us for details.
