On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, the “FY2024 Shimane University Research Award Presentations” was held at the University Hall of Shimane University. Professor Junji Shinjo of the Next-Generation Tatara Co-Creation Center, who was honored with the award, delivered a lecture at the event.
Professor Shinjo presented on the theme:
“Ultra-Precise Simulation of Heat, Flow, and Solidification for Optimizing Metal Additive Manufacturing Processes.”
In his talk, he explained the research aimed at solving technical challenges in applying metal additive manufacturing (3D printing)—a technology gaining global attention—to practical engine components. He also discussed recent trends in the space development race and shared examples of actual collaborative research projects.
Toward the end of the lecture, Professor Shinjo reflected on his research journey, the challenges and joys of continuing research, and the international expansion of his work. Recalling his experiences conducting research alongside international researchers at overseas universities, he encouraged students by saying:
“Interacting with different cultures and engaging in discussions with researchers from around the world is exciting! I hope young people will take the opportunity to venture abroad at least once.”
