On Thursday 9 January 2025, the 21th NEXTA forum was held at the Next Generation Tatara Co-Creation Centre(NEXTA) research building. The event was held in dual formats, combining both online and on-site participation, and many people from the companies in and outside of the prefecture, as well as the researchers and university people attended the event.
The title of the talk was “The activities of commercialization for 3D Additive manufacturing through open innovation” and was delivered by Mr.Yusaku Maruno, department chief of the Technology Alliance department at Proterial, Ltd.

He started with his company overview and business details during the talk. After he explained about his career, he closely explained the development of 3D-Additive Manufacturing and innovative materials for Additive Manufacturing based on his own experience. He also talked about the development of applications through Open Innovation by giving examples.
During the questions-and-answer session, the participants asked various questions, and they had active discussion. At the end of the talk, Mr. Maruno sent a message to the University students saying, “I would like you to leverage every opportunity the university offers and try to find what you would like to do among the choices as many as possible.”

After the event, we received many comments from the participants such as “The story about the start up to commercialization was very interesting to hear.” “It was very helpful because he mentioned the reasons why the metal 3D additive manufacturing market does not expand, not only about the development of metal 3D additive manufacturing.” “It was interesting since he talked widely about the field sharing both the technical contents and how we can proceed with the open innovation.”
