On Monday 23 October 2023, NEXTA co-organized and held the plasma materials engineering research workshop as the 13th NEXTA Forum with the Research Society for plasma materials engineering.

In this workshop, there were lectures on the latest plasma technology and related applications. It was also an opportunity to discuss plasma materials science which contributes to carbon neutrality, as well as the direction of the industry. More than 80 people from companies in and outside of the prefecture, or research-related people participated in the workshop.

The vice-director Arakawa and Professor Shinjo of the NEXTA gave the invited talks for the following titles.

Kazuto Arakawa  “Advanced Nano materials analysis technology”
Junji Shinjo      “Additive manufacturing simulations”

After the workshop, interested participants visited 2 places to see actual plasma spray equipment. The tours took place at Shimane Institute for Industrial Technology and the newly completed factory of Takeuchi Electronics Co., Ltd. The participants received explanations about equipment such as powder manufacturing devices using RF plasma in each facility.

Some of the Shimane University students who participated in the workshop reviewed “Although I have never touched the thermal plasma spray which is the theme of the workshop before, it was a great opportunity for me to listen to the lecture by the top-level professors in the country.”, “I learned that Nano-particles available by thermal plasma spray could be applied to All-solid-state lithium-ion batteries. I was surprised that this technology has been applied to our daily lives. In addition, it was a whole new experience for me to go to see the facilities of Shimane Institute for Industrial Technology and Takeuchi Electronics, co., Ltd.”, “By getting to know the use and business investment of plasma by Shimane Institute for Industrial Technology or other local companies, not only the research in the Universities, I realized the connection between Science technology and society even closer, and it expanded my horizon.”
