The 10th round of the "Shimane Advanced Metal Materials Base Creation Project Conference" (B Conference) was held on 2 August 2023. This Conference is held twice a year for discussions for the Project of Subsidy for Regional University / Regional Industry Creation, "Creation of a Global Base for Advanced Metals -Next Generation TATARA Project-".The conference was brought both online and on-site, likewise the last time, connecting Shimane University, the collaborating researchers in the UK, and other related organizations. Also, Professor Roger Reed from the University of Oxford as well as the director of the Next Generation Tatara Co-Creation Centre attended onsite together with Professor Catherine Rae, an academic visitor from the University of Cambridge.

During the conference, the leaders from the Aircraft Industry Project, Motor Industry Project and Human Resource Development Project made a presentation of their achievements and progress. The participants also discussed NEXTA’s future development. The committee members showed appreciation and expectations hearing the achievements. There were active discussions regarding human resource development in collaboration with the Faculty of Materials for Energy which is newly established in Shimane University, as well as the development of this project, and there were voices from the committee members hoping to contribute to the local industry even more.

At the end of the conference, Professor Roger Reed encouraged the members with powerful words saying, “As the director of the NEXTA, I am very proud of what going on in our project and the centre. I believe this is happening because of the hard work and tremendous team working of different people in the University, staff and the students, the industry collaborators, particularly the Proterial, Ltd. And SUSANOO companies, and of course the support of the local and the national government. Everyone is working together. It’s really remarkable to me to see this level of team working. I think everyone should be congratulated on this. Nevertheless, of course, there are still many things to do, so we should not stand still in the spirit of “Kaizen”. We must continue and strive to improve. As the director of NEXTA, I will do everything I can to make sure all this happens.”

The next B-conference is scheduled for December 2023.
