Through 5 days from the 5th to the 9th of September, an intensive course to learn about high-temperature materials in English, “Introduction to high-temperature materials” has been held. The course is designed as part of the Human Resource Development Project in the ‘Creation of a Global Base for Advanced Metals-Next Generation TATARA Project-‘, aiming to develop global human resources who are able to present and share research results on the international stage, through learning basic reading and writing English skills related to Materials Science.
The course was brought by professors specialized in heat resistance metal materials, including professor Roger Reed of the University of Oxford who is also the director of the Next Generation Tatara Co-Creation Centre(NEXTA), as well as professor Graham McCartney who is also from the University of Oxford. The course was brought both online and through video lectures, including exercises and a question and answer section via Zoom.
On the 9th of September, the last day of the intensive course, the students from the Interdisciplinary Faculty of Science and Engineering, and Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology attended the lecture, and they had an opportunity to ask questions and discuss with the professors online.
Professor McCartney sent a message to the students saying, “It was a pleasure to meet you all again this year. I think the students learned a lot working through the course. I appreciate everyone involved in this course, including the professors.” The participants reviewed saying, “Although the content of the course was advanced and difficult, I was lucky to be able to be taught directly by the professors of the University of Oxford. I feel more motivated to learn English as well.” A student who participated for the second time this year reviewed saying, “I feel that I can understand more compared ing to the last year.”
