Every Friday from the 1st of June to the 13th of July, we had lectures on “Phase diagrams and alloy design”. It is aimed at learning to create phase diagrams which are called the “Map of material development”, as well as to acquire design knowledge, and it has been offered since the previous fiscal year. In order to learn phase diagrams which have been pointed out that it is important in recent material development, the students watched on-demand course materials beforehand and then participated in the lectures at NEXTA research building.
During the online exercise, the students had an opportunity to talk and ask questions to Professor Graham McCartney from the University of Oxford. The student reviewed saying, “The lectures were very high-level and difficult." " Although it was difficult to catch up with the content of the classes, it made me feel motivated to learn more including English.” “I'm honored to receive lectures by the Professor at the University of Oxford while being in Japan.”
Professor McCartney sent a message at the end of the lecture saying, “I've very enjoyed again this year, talking to the students. I'm sure it's been a challenging course, because not just of the academic content but because of English. So, I would like to congratulate everyone in the room for taking the course and studying in English. I would like to say thank you to every one of you who has taken a microphone and asked the questions in English.”
The lectures by Professor Reed (University of Oxford), the director of the Next Generation Tatara Co-Creation Centre will be planned for September.
