For 5days through the 13th to 17th of December, 2021 we had “Metal Engineering training for high school students 2021.” This training was organized as one of the activities of the Human Resources Development Project in the “Creation of Global Base for Advanced Metals –Next Generation Tatara Project-“, and 17students who go to the high schools in Matsue City. The students came to NEXTA every day from 5 to 6:30 pm during the period. They were divided into 4 groups by themes such as “Strength of metal material”, “Creation and evaluation of copper, zinc alloy”, “Understanding the operation and materials for Jet engines”, and “Creation of Magnets”.

The schedule for these 5days was very busy since they had a lecture by the professors at NEXTA on the first day, then they had an experiment and create a summary, and finally, they had a presentation on the last day. Although the style of learning and the atmosphere were very different from the high school, however, the students participated actively in the event.

After the event, some of the students gave their impressions as “It was a precious opportunity for me to think about the future act since I realized how it is important to work on presentation and communication skills by participating in this event.”, and the other remarked as “I have been learning maths and physics at school but I wasn’t sure how it can be helpful in real life. but I felt real and close to it this time, so it was fun.”
NEXTA will continue to organize the activities for human resources development.
