We held the first and second “Waku-waku (exciting) Material Seminar” designated for the 1st year students in the Interdisciplinary Faculty of Science and Engineering, as a trial seminar for the “Materials Science and Engineering Special Course” that opened this year.
On the 21st of April, 22 students attended the seminar. After receiving an explanation in the lecture room, they took a tour inside of the NEXTA and its facilities. The participants were divided into several teams and took tours. They were all listening carefully about explanations regarding equipment. Since the first seminar was scheduled on the same day as the opening ceremony, the participants received an amorphous foil which was punched with a piece of equipment in NEXTA as a commemorative gift.
The second seminar was held on the 12th of May. As a second seminar, we organized a material engineering trial seminar.18 students attended the seminar and were divided into 6 groups. The groups were divided by different themes such as “Let`s experience sintering” “Let`s understand the system of jet-engine”, “Dissolution of titanium”, “Let`s break the materials”, “Let`s process amorphous metal” and “Let`s create a magnet”. The students had experiments and observations based on these themes. The students in every group seemed to participate very actively and improved their understanding by asking questions.
The next and following “Waku-waku Material Seminar” will be held on the 9th of June, and the 7th of July.
